National Commitment to Fight Alzheimer’s Renewed

The NAPA Reauthorization and the Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act renewed the national commitment to the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

Access to Treatment

Thanks to relentless AIM advocacy and bipartisan support from congressional champions, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced they will enable coverage of FDA traditionally approved Alzheimer’s treatments through a low touch registry.

Building a Path to Better Dementia Care

AIM worked closely with bipartisan congressional champions to develop and introduce the Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act, critical legislation to streamline the complicated health care maze for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Securing Historic Dementia-Specific Funding in States

Thanks to the hard work of AIM advocates, state governments approved a record-breaking $164.2 million in dementia-specific funding in 2022. Factoring in varying budget cycles throughout the states, this number increases to $177.7 — representing an 8.6% increase in total funding across 35 states and the District of Columbia from the previous year.

Ensuring Equity in Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials

The ENACT Act is working to increase the participation of underrepresented populations in Alzheimer’s and other dementia clinical trials by expanding education and outreach to these populations, encouraging the diversity of clinical trial staff, and reducing participation burden, among other priorities.

The Improving HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act is helping people living with dementia and their caregivers by educating clinicians on care planning services available through Medicare.

Thanks to our dedicated advocates, individuals living with Alzheimer’s now have better protection from elder abuse because of the passage of the Promoting Alzheimer’s Awareness to Prevent Elder Abuse Act.

Federal Priorities

Our Nation’s Commitment to Alzheimer’s Research and Public Health Response

Congress must continue to invest in Alzheimer’s and dementia research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and fund the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act (P.L. 115-406) to strengthen the public health infrastructure across the country by implementing effective Alzheimer’s intervention focused on public health issues such as increasing early detection and diagnosis, reducing risk, and preventing avoidable hospitalizations.
