Investing in Alzheimer’s Research and the Public Health Infrastructure
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our advocates and bipartisan congressional champions, federal Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding is at an all-time high and our nation is implementing an Alzheimer’s public health infrastructure. Today, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is investing as much as $3.8 billion annually in Alzheimer’s and dementia research. But more work remains.
Congress must continue to invest in Alzheimer’s and dementia research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and fund the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act (P.L. 115-406). A sustained federal investment in research will accelerate the global progress of new treatments, preventions, and ultimately, a cure.
BOLD is working to strengthen the public health infrastructure across the country by implementing effective Alzheimer’s intervention focused on public health issues such as increasing early detection and diagnosis, reducing risk, and preventing avoidable hospitalizations.
But we know more work remains to achieve a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Join us to advocate for investing in Alzheimer’s and dementia research and funding the Alzheimer’s public health infrastructure!
